Great places to live with your dog in the DC area: Chevy Chase

This is the first blog in a fun little series about great places to live with your dog in dc!

I love training dogs in Chevy Chase DC and Maryland. These are my favorite neighborhoods in the city, though I might be a little biased because I live here too!

From the beautiful tree-lined streets, the welcoming neighbors and dogs everywhere, easy parking, and close amenities - there are so many reasons that I love living and working here.

As Chevy Chase residents, we enjoy sidewalks and lower street traffic, while still maintaining enough people and dog pedestrians to keep our pups social.

There is ample green space, including

  • Rock Creek Park

  • Lafayette-Pointer Park

  • Chevy Chase Rec Center

  • Brookville Road Park

  • Chevy Chase Local Park

  • Pinehurst Ridge Trail

  • And Meadowbrook Local Park

These green spaces are perfect for enrichment, training, and well being!

There are also lots of cute little shops on the Connecticut Ave strip, including an amazing Starbucks with an outdoor window, perfect for walking your dog to pick up a tasty coffee order.

I’m not 100% sure, but I think some of the local shops there might allow you to bring your well-behaved dog in if you ask nicely. And, I’ve definitely seen some well-behaved dogs patio dining with their owners. If you know of any dog-friendly businesses on the Chevy Chase strip, please leave their info in the comments!

I really enjoy training Izzy and my client’s dogs on the Chevy Chase Connecticut Avenue strip. There are plenty of distractions, but also enough space that you can easy pop off onto a side street if your dog gets overwhelmed.

Finally, we have lots of great medical care and grooming options in the area as well. There is Friendship Heights Vet, a 24/7 emergency hospital and vet, only 10 minutes away. For grooming, there is Bone Jour in Bethesda, Clever Dog in Silver Spring, and Groom in Silver Spring - all of them only about 10 minutes away as well.

In a nutshell, Chevy Chase DC and Maryland are both perfect for raising, socializing, and training dogs in. For being so close to the city, we are very lucky to still enjoy lots of space. The whole neighborhood just feels very relaxed and friendly, with so many green spaces but also plenty of social opportunities, perfect for dogs.

Do you live in Chevy Chase too? Want to train together? Please send me a message, I’d love to connect!
